Ask the laboratory or quality lead what decisions remain after the last production run. A final batch can leave tests awaiting completion, results awaiting review and investigations without a conclusion.

Plan that work before treating the laboratory as available for clearance. The required capability may include competent people, records and supporting services as well as instruments. The lead must establish the technical requirements; this guide concerns scheduling and responsibility.

Work backwards from the remaining decision

Use a demand schedule with the output needed from each task. This original example does not define test methods or acceptance criteria.

Remaining work Required outcome Dependency to confirm
Final release testing An authorised decision for the identified batch Suitable capability, relevant sample and current requirement
Open investigation A documented next decision or accepted continuing investigation Responsible specialist and access to the evidence
Rework assessment Evidence for the proposed correction or other disposition Agreed technical question and applicable approvals
Later product enquiry A usable route to retained records and samples Continuing custodian and authorised technical contact

Identify the earliest date the work can be completed and the consequence of a delay. If the answer depends on a result that has not yet arrived, preserve that uncertainty in the programme.

The known rework guide covers output already needing a decision. Make its testing demand visible rather than treating it as spare work the laboratory can absorb after closing.

Check any proposed transfer of testing

If another laboratory may take the work, ask the relevant specialists to confirm suitability, scope and the information required. A provider offering a similar test name does not establish that the route meets the product's actual requirements.

Confirm who reviews the result and accepts the decision. Outsourcing a test and transferring responsibility for the product are different commercial and technical questions. Obtain appropriate advice on the actual arrangement.

Record what happens to incomplete work if the intended provider cannot accept it. A proposed destination should not become a reason to release the existing capability before the relevant decision has been made.

Confirm custody and access after testing

Use the sample-custody handover for material that remains. Confirm the applicable conditions and duration through the responsible people; do not assume every sample can move into ordinary storage.

Test access to the production evidence. The next enquiry may begin with a batch reference long after the original laboratory staff have left. Someone needs to be able to find the record and reach the authorised decision-maker.

When enquiring with UK Auction Group, identify laboratory assets still needed for the remaining work. Explain which release dates are confirmed and which depend on open technical decisions. Keep the sale scope consistent with the laboratory's accepted plan.
